Innovative Artistic Solutions

People increasingly engage with their visual surroundings through technology, often photographing artwork in museums, galleries, and on the street. At the same time, artistic disciplines naturally intersect—much like how graffiti, hip-hop, breakdancing, and street style form a cohesive expression within bboy culture.


Acknowledging this interdisciplinary nature and evolving viewing habits, Concrete Lab’s Interactive App expands how audiences interact with art, enabling visual pieces to explore connections with other art forms. Designed to turn mobile devices from mere documentation tools into platforms for deeper engagement, the app enriches the overall art experience.


To demonstrate its capabilities, Concrete Lab used Adrian Hayles’s 2015 Reggae Lane mural in Toronto’s Eglinton West Little Jamaica neighborhood as a case study, illustrating how the app can add rich layers of content and interaction to a complex piece of art.

How it works

The Process

Once you have downloaded and opened the app, point your viewfinder at the mural. The target areas will appear in green, and when the triggers are activated, the underlaid art will display to indicate the activity.


Additionally, you will hear background music from the featured artists, along with their bios. The active artist will be highlighted while the surrounding art is greyed out.
